Collection & Co, the vegan-friendly footwear and accessories brand with a shop on the ground floor of The Galleries, has launched a new range of trainers made from pineapple leaf fibres!
Collection & Co
Established in 2016, Collection & Co is a vegan-friendly design brand with an active attitude to providing fashion-forward and cruelty-free footwear and accessories using non-animal leathers and glues.
Protecting the environment is a key value to the brand’s ethos and in an effort to be more environmentally conscious company founder and creative director Felesha Papa creates projects to reuse materials that are either discarded or left over from previous collections.
By using a variety of sustainable materials such as recycled plastics, hemp, and recycled fishing nets, Collection & Co offers 100% vegan designs that are also PETA approved.
The skilful production of small batches of shoes takes place in Greece, in factories that adhere to fair working conditions.
The brand’s mission is to create beautiful products using safe and ethical practices, paving the way for a truly sustainable future by leaving less of a carbon footprint than a conventional leather factory.
Felesha says: ‘We embrace the industry standard from a different perspective and feel being a sustainable and vegan brand is part of the new modern vision.’
For AW18, Collection & Co are introducing a range of styles made with Piñatex®, an exciting new vegan leather alternative. It’s a natural and sustainable non-woven textile made from pineapple leaf fibres.
The fibres are the by-product of the pineapple harvest and therefore no extra land, water, fertilisers, or pesticides are required to produce the material. Piñatex® resembles a textured leather and is soft but strong, light and breathable.
In a bid to grow ever more sustainable, Collection & Co have used this revolutionary textile to cover ethical agendas, providing social and economic impact as well as maintaining a low environmental footprint. Using the very best materials confirms the brand’s passion to transcend the need for leather.
‘The most important issue for the brand is choosing high quality fabrics that are not only vegan, but also environmentally friendly. My goal for Collection & Co is to explore new ways to become a forward thinking brand by searching for on-trend and ethical materials.’ says Felesha.
The unisex KARPOS trainer
Made with Piñatex®, the classic low top KARPOS trainer gives a contemporary feel with a sense of ease and authenticity. It can be worn by men or women, and retails at £165.
The trainer has a meshed effect texture that is soft and durable. Its design is minimalist with a sleek round toe.
Set on a 3.4cm sole, the trainer has extra padding added to the insoles, tongue and ankle area for around the clock comfort. It is finished with a contrasting logo tab on the back heel and is available in two colour ways, charcoal and off-white. Made with non-chemical, plant-based dyes.
The durability is the same as real leather, which is strong but also breathable, keeping your feet cool during warmer months. They will be part of an ongoing carryover style that can be transitional for all seasons.
Each shoe is hand-crafted with thermoplastic rubber soles that are stitched on for extra durability. They are finished with matching flat tonal laces, creating a timeless design.
The KARPOS trainers have been designed to make minimal environmental impact and look totally on trend.
2018 has been a very positive and exciting year for Collection & Co, as their styles have been spotted on a number of VIP celebrities including Miley Cyrus, Lucy Watson, and Madelaine Petsch, who stars in the Netflix hit show Riverdale.
